Through Her Lens is a documentary about the intelligence, creativity, and resilience of the 8th grade class at the Kibera School for Girls. The school is located in Kibera, Nairobi, the largest slum in Africa and third largest in the world. In 2016, Shannon taught a month-long documentary filmmaking course at the school, leaving behind the cameras for the girls. Through Her Lens will showcase what happens when these young women are given control over their own stories.
